On 12th September 2018, the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, in New York, presented the Grenfell community with a seedling grown from the Callery pear tree that stood on the original World Trade Centre Plaza. The tree survived the 9/11 tragedy and the Museum annually donates seedlings from it to communities that have faced and overcome tragedies.
No decision has yet been taken about the seedling, but it could be used to form part of the longer-term Grenfell memorial and could be included and considered alongside any design proposals for the site, if this is the community’s wish.
Further information on this announcement can be found through the Memorial Museum website.
