The Memorial Commission’s chairs and community representatives met some of the bereaved families at online events in October. They heard their thoughts, answered questions and updated them on the different ways the bereaved, and the wider community, can share their thoughts, feelings and concerns on the future memorial. These were just the first in a series of regular meetings that the Commission will be holding, both with bereaved families and others.
Among the questions asked were how long it would take for a memorial to be agreed, and how families can stay in touch with the Commission. Attendees made clear that the memorial was extremely important to families and that any engagement should be handled sensitively.
The community representatives said they are working with the thought ‘as fast as possible, but as slow as necessary’ in their minds. They encouraged everyone to take part in the ideas-gathering process, which is being carried out by community engagement specialist, Kaizen. The Kaizen team is keen to hear ideas and thoughts from bereaved families, former residents and those living in North Kensington in whichever way suits you best. You can contact them at grenfellmemorial@kaizen.org.uk or on 020 7082 5508 to share your thoughts about a memorial.
