The Grenfell Tower Memorial Commission has launched the process to appoint the future design team for a bold, fitting and lasting memorial to the 72 victims of 14 June 2017.
The timings we intend to work to are as follows:
Date | The Grenfell Tower Memorial Commission will: |
---|---|
10 July | Launch the international design team selection process. Design teams are encouraged to register their interest, and we hope they will feel inspired and honoured to submit an initial proposal, via this online portal. (Submissions must be received by midday on 25 September 2024.) |
28 August 2024 |
Hold a design industry event for interested design teams and individuals to attend. Here they will be able to understand more about the design process, and potentially meet other teams. We will write to the Grenfell community again after these events, to update you on what we heard and our next steps. *We had previous intended to hold three of these events. We will now be holding one, to maximise how many design professionals can attend, and to enable them to gather any additional information they might need to develop a design team proposal. |
December 2024 | Meet and speak with the shortlisted design teams. We will write to the community nearer the time with further details. |
Spring 2025 | Invite the community to an ‘exhibition’, where they can review and give feedback on the shortlisted design teams, and on the teams' proposed approach to working with the community. The shortlisted design teams’ initial approach will include an illustration of what one part of the memorial might look like. |
Spring/summer 2025 |
Communicate who the final team is to the community. |
By early 2026 | Work with the design team on the detailed design for the memorial, with the community closely involved. |
