A commemorative story

The Knight and the Princess

The latest addition to the books at North Kensington Library is 'The Knight and the Princess', a fairy tale written to honour the lives of a young couple who lost their lives in the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

Marco Gottardi and Gloria Trevisan lived on the 23rd floor of the tower, having moved to London to continue their architecture careers. ‘The Knight and the Princess’, (Il Cavaliere e La Prinicpessa), is an expression of love from Marco’s parents, Daniela and Giannino Gottardi, a way for them to remember their son. In the story, the family has chosen to depict what happened at Grenfell Tower in the style of a traditional fairy tale, rather than as a factual account.

Daniela and Giannino have also set up the Grenfellove Foundation to honour Gloria and Marco’s memory. This charitable foundation supports education projects in the Veneto region of Italy and grants scholarships to young people studying building safety and construction design.

Actor Tim Downie, a local resident, visited the library to record a reading of the story which you can listen to here. You can also read the book in either Italian or English at North Kensington Library.
