In our December update, we shared the news that we had received strong applications from 28 multi-disciplinary design teams, featuring architects, landscape architects, community engagement specialists and other disciplines. We have now robustly evaluated and moderated those applicants to reach a shortlist of teams that should have the right skills, capability and awareness of the Grenfell tragedy. We have also conducted significant due diligence checks to make sure that any team, organisation or individual potentially working on the memorial does not bear any potential responsibility for the tragedy. Appointing a design team is a vital step in turning the Grenfell community’s vision for a future memorial into a physical reality. We are also all too aware of the importance of, in collaboration with the Grenfell community, appointing the right team, who will work professionally, sensitively and thoughtfully, with the Grenfell community.
We are also holding February ‘listening sessions’ for bereaved families, survivors and immediate community to meet with the shortlisted teams. For more information, please contact us directly.
We are immensely grateful to those who have lost and who continue to endure so much, for giving their time to speak with us both previously and in the future. We appreciate the high demands on their time, including by the government regarding what will happen to Grenfell Tower in the future. We are here to hear from the Grenfell community at any time.
The thoughts of the community are invaluable in selecting the right memorial design team and, later on, the right memorial design. This will help to make sure that the loved ones lost in the tragedy of 14 June 2017 are respectfully honoured and remain forever in the nation’s hearts and minds.
